How It Works

For The Layman:

The electric current that runs through most businesses, facilities, and homes is a dirty current. It contains surges, spikes, and has other issues that aren't good for appliances, lights, motors, computers, etc. Dirty electric currents are introduced into the electric system by both a poor current being fed into the building from power companies as well as components and appliances within the building making it even dirtier.

Dirty electric currents result in higher maintenance cost in a building, lower life cycles for most devices that utilize electricity to run, and also the utilization of an average of 19% more electricity than what is required with clean electric currents.

The Parties that Benefit from the Utilization of Dirty Power Include:

  • The electric power company; because every month businesses and people utilize and pay for 19% more power than what they would require with clean currents.
  • The manufacturers of appliances, computers, lights, motors, etc...; because the components that are powered by the dirty currents run hotter than they should and fail early due to the issues caused by the dirty currents.
  • The technicians and maintenance people; because dirty power requires greater usage of people that have to service computers, align printers, install motors and appliances, calibrate robotics, change lights, etc..
The G.E.S.P.E.R. System works to condition the dirty electricity in the electric system resulting in cleaner electric currents. By providing better quality electricity:
  • Motors will demand less kilowatts of electricity and will run cooler
  • Less demand for electricity results in less kilowatts being billed by the electric company
  • Removal of spikes, surges, and the utilization of cleaner electric currents result in an extended life of components utilizing the energy (motors, appliances, lights, etc.)
GESPER How It Works

For Electricians and Electric Egineers:

G.E.S.P.E.R. units contain thermal metal oxide varistors, capacitors and proprietary technology which work to improve harmonics, balance voltage, improve power factor, reduce required current and provide harmonic filtering. The G.E.S.P.E.R. units were ETL tested UL 1449 3rd Edition SPD, ETL Tested VPR Rated 1200 Volts 100 KA RMS SCCR Rating.

Below is an analysis that shows how Gesper Systems, LLC. can save its customers 10% reduction in kWh usage, with a median average of 19% reduction in kWh usage. This is one of the many features that result out of the "New Technology" of the G.E.S.P.E.R. System. By eliminating the harmonics, not only will motors last longer, but so will all of your electronics. Filtering the harmonics prevents overheating of components and neutral conductors, damage to motors, electronics, circuit breakers, and transformers.

Improved Harmonics:

Every G.E.S.P.E.R. unit has incorporated thermal metal oxide varistors. (TMOVs). These TMOV's divert transient voltage spikes and down-line lightning strikes to ground. The diversion of transient voltage spikes will reduce the amount of energy that motors draw. The harmonics that are present in every circuit are reduced by the combination of the relationship with the EMI filters, TMOVs and capacitors that are present in each GESPER unit; resulting in a savings of 0% kWh to 4% kWh.

Negative Effect of Harmonics:

  • Apply reverse torque to motors
  • Disrupt electronic performance
  • Overheat components and neutral conductors
  • Damage motors, electronics, circuit breakers and transformers, etc.

Harmonic Correction:

  • G.E.S.P.E.R. filters the bad harmonics within the electric current / electric system
  • Reduces harmonics emanating from VFDs, computers, DC ballasts for fluorescent lights, and other nonlinear loads

Harmonic Filtering:

G.E.S.P.E.R. also provides harmonic filtering. The 5th, 11th, and 17th harmonics applies a reverse torque on 3 phase motors. The G.E.S.P.E.R. restores the 60 Hz cycle and thus the 60 Hz fundamental cycle the 5th was countering, resulting in a savings of 0% kWh to 4% kWh. Then the 3rd, 9th, and 15th (The Triplen Harmonics) apply no forward force on motors. By restoring the 60 Hz cycle, G.E.S.P.E.R. filters the current that feeds The Triplen Harmonics; resulting in a savings of 0% kWh to 4% kWh.

Balanced Voltage:
By eliminating the transient voltage, G.E.S.P.E.R. units balance the voltage. A 3% voltage imbalance attributes to a 10% motor de-rating. By eliminating this, G.E.S.P.E.R. units save on the amount of energy that a motor has to draw to operate. Resulting savings is 0.5% kWh to 10% kWh.

Power Factor Improvement:

Residential units are not billed by the electric companies for poor power factor. However, with the utilization of capacitors, G.E.S.P.E.R. units are increasing the power factor of the current received by all appliances and motors. The closer the power factor is to Unity (1.0), the more efficient a motor operates, thus requiring less energy to operate. If power factor is at 0.85, this results in the current wave lagging the voltage wave by 15%. This results in motors having to draw 2% to 4% more energy to operate. By increasing power factor, we are eliminating the need for a motor to draw more current. This correction has saves between 0% kWh to 10% kWh. Commercial and Industrial properties, that are billed based on power factor, may see even an even greater savings as a result of power factor correction.

Power Factor Correction - Proprietary Capacitors:

  • After years of research and testing, G.E.S.P.E.R. units are built with optimal materials and components that maximize power quality and save energy.
  • G.E.S.P.E.R.'s capacitors are built to proprietary specifications and are custom manufactured only for G.E.S.P.E.R. units.
  • Custom capacitors are a key contributor to the systems ability to significantly raise power quality.
  • Higher power factor allows motors to run more efficiently by providing them better, more productive power.
  • Better power factor allows machines to do more, with less power, hence saving energy.

Current Reduction:

As the power factor is increased, the amount of current a motor requires is lowered. Normally, the current will drop in the same percentage as power factor percentage increases. However, with the proprietary knowledge and a combination of other parts, G.E.S.P.E.R. Systems reduces the current percentage to an amount greater than the increase of the power factor percentage. Also, G.E.S.P.E.R. helps to eliminate apparent energy which heats motors. The resulting savings is 0% kWh to 10% kWh.

Surge Protection:

G.E.S.P.E.R. Systems works as a whole building electric current conditioner and surge protection device. The system protects from down line lightning strikes and provides ETL/UL tested and approved protection from surges and spikes.

  • Provides protection against external surges and spikes, and sacrifices itself in event of catastrophic surge to protect the facility's equipment
  • Per new UL Standards, each component is visible and has a red indicator which becomes visible through clear cover if tripped by a surge
  • Provides a $2 million per surge incident insurance policy
  • Meets UL's latest Surge Protection Device Standards:
    1. Thermal protection is designed to open and will shunt the overvoltage to ground in a surge event
    2. Patent pending TMOV cutoff function with special disconnect design and arc extinguishing device
    3. Low leakage current and high surge capability
